Spooky and Gross Party Food Ideas for Halloween

No Halloween party is complete without spooky food. You've come to the right place if you need some ideas for spooky dishes to serve at your party.

These creepy edible concoctions are simple to make and tasty, too. They are great for kids or adult parties.

Make spiders eggs, grave cake, swamp slime, and a fun kids' drink that changes colors. Have fun and bone appetit!

Spider Eggs

A Martha Stewart inpiration

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Pack of frozen blueberries

These spooky looking eggs are easy to make and taste just like normal boiled eggs. To make them, simply fill a saucepan with water and allow it to boil. Add the desired number of eggs to the boiling water. Pour the frozen blueberries into the water along with the eggs. The blueberries will dye the eggs a deep purple without leaving behind any blueberry flavor like Easter egg dye. Allow the eggs to boil for 10 to 15 minutes.

Remove the pot from the heat. Using a fork or spoon, hit each egg lightly to crack the shell. Leave the cracked eggs sitting in the blueberries for about 10 more minutes. This will allow the blueberries to dye the cracks. Remove the eggs and rinse with cool water. The eggs will be dark purple and will look like they have spider webs on them. The eggs can be served with or without the shell.

The shells can be saved and used for decoration. I put the dyed shells in a jar to look like an ingredient for a potion.

Popcorn Candy Halloween Mix

Candy and Popcorn Halloween Trail Mix

Ingredients:

  • Popcorn
  • Teddie Grahams
  • Candy corn
  • Peanuts
  • Any other candy desired

Make a salty sweet snack mix for your guests. First pop the popcorn. In a large bowl mix the candy, popcorn, and other desired ingredients with a large spoon. Reese's Pieces are a good candy to add because the candies are fall colors. As you add the popcorn, try not to get any of the kernels into the mix. During the party, mix the ingredients again to make sure all the candy doesn't settle at the bottom. Serve the mix in a decorative Halloween bowl or use a green, black, or orange bowl for a festive appearance.

Grave Cake

Ingredients:

  • Chocolate cake
  • Chocolate Icing
  • White, black, and/or green gel icing
  • Graham crackers
  • Square or rectangle shaped chocolate cookies
  • Plastic skeletons (optional)

Cook the chocolate cake following the directions on the package. When the cake has cooled, place it on the dish from which it will be served. Black plates or serving dishes work well. Ice the cake with the chocolate icing.

Lay the cookies on the counter. Using the gel icing, write on them as if they were tombstones. Short things like RIP, Bye, Vacant are easy to write on cookies. Stick the cookies into the cake straight up being careful not to smudge the icing.

Crumble graham crackers and sprinkle them in a rectangle next to the tombstone to look like a freshly dug grave. The chocolate cookies can also be crumbled and sprinkled on the cake to look like dirt. Coconut shreds mixed with green food coloring work as grass.

Plastic skeleton can be stuck into the cake to look like bodies in the graves. You can even cut off arms and legs of the skeletons and scatter them on the cake for a gorier look. Gummy worms can be added for accents.

Swamp

Swamp Slime

Ingredients:

  • Jello
  • Tonic water (optional)
  • Gummy Worms

Serve your guests a slimy treat. Pick a green or yellow color of jello. You can substitute tonic water for regular water as you make the jello to give the jello a strange glow under a black light. Pour the jello into clean, empty baby food jars or other clear glass jars.

Before the jello sets, add a gummy worm or two into the bottom of the jar. When the jello has set, add another gummy worm to the top. Swedish Fish can also be added if desired. If it is an adult party, turn it into swampy looking jello sliders.

Cotton Candy Concoction

Ingredients:

  • Clear soda (7up, Sierra Mist, Sprite, etc.)
  • Cotton candy

Tired of punch? Serve your guests a drink that will cause a real fizz. Pour the soda into cups. Make sure that the soda is freshly opened for optimal fizziness.

Give guests cotton candy along with their drink. Have them stick the cotton candy into the soda. The soda will begin to fizz like a mad scientist experiment. The soda will turn the color of the cotton candy. Don't forget to serve the drinks in spooky Halloween cups.
